"Sports and science through the eyes of a sociologist"

Gabriella Pusztai, the director of the DE Institute of Education and Cultural Studies, emphasized in the closing remarks of the conference: it was a great opportunity that the institution could host the international conference because not only the experienced researchers but also several of the younger doctoral students and the students involved in their research were able to present their results to the international scientific community.

The central topic of the research series conducted at our institute is the formation of students and students' physical activity and health behavior, as well as its impact on their academic careers. In addition, several doctoral dissertations defended by us dealt with the impact of the introduction of daily physical education on students and teachers, and more recently, within the framework of the MTA-DE-Families and Teachers Cooperation Research Group, the sports pedagogy working group also examines the impact of parental involvement in school sports on the effectiveness - explained the director.

The CHERD - Hungary Educational Research Internship Program has started!

The Educational Research Internship Program of the Higher Education Research and Development Center of the University of Debrecen (CHERD-Hungary) started in September 2021 with the individual and group participation of teaching students.
The interns can participate in the Research Center's research, which deals with the most current issues in the world of the school. The interns work on their own research topic, for the realization of which the Research Center provides assistance. Each intern (or group of interns) is supported by a research mentor. They have the opportunity to join the research discussions, where we discuss current issues of the topic of your choice in an inspiring, collegial environment.

Our goal is to present the program in action, so you can expect:

  • to life pictures
  • to various entertainment sections
  • for applications and conference calls
  • for short articles featuring trainees
  • to other current affairs.

Year-end summary

We started the research in September 2021, after it was revealed that the research group of the Institute of Education and Cultural Sciences of the University of Debrecen also won the Public Education Development Research Application of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
We have been actively working and researching for months, the results of which are summarized in the figure below.
10 senior researchers, 6 research teachers, 21 junior researchers, 16 interns, 11 master's and 3 undergraduate students participate in the research.
In recent months, we have conducted interview research in 3 counties, in a total of 30 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools. We are also in contact with 6 institutions across the border.
12 working groups work to explore the theoretical foundations of the research as widely as possible. At least 600 studies were reviewed.
The topic is currently covered by 8 doctoral dissertations, but 4 theses and another 7 TDK theses are being prepared on the mentioned topic.
In the next semester, we will continue our work and continue our research on the topic of developing the ability of teachers to strengthen parental commitment.
